Symptom
You want to perform an upgrade in combination with a system conversion to Unicode.
Upgrade,NW 2004s,SAP ECC, ERP 2005, MDMP, Single Code Page, Unicode, CU&UC, SPUM4, SPUMG
1. For which source and target releases is the Combined Upgrade & Unicode Conversion (CU&UC) supported?
2. Is the CU&UC supported for all code page configuration types?
3. Are there any hardware regulations for this project?
4. What support packages, patches and corrections I need?
5. What documentation do I need and where do I find it?
- 1. For which source and target releases is the Combined Upgrade & Unicode Conversion (CU&UC) supported?
General Information:
The CU& UC is only available for upgrades to the following target releases:
- NW 7.0 SR1 and higher (including Enhancement Package 1 and higher) from the following source releases:
R/3 4. 6C, R/3 4.6D,
R/3 Enterprise 4.70 Core with Ext. 1.10 or 2.00,
R/3 Enterprise 4.70 Core with Ext. 1.10 or 2.00,
SAP Web Application Server (WAS) 6.20 (standalone),
SAP NetWeaver 6.40 (standalone), and
SAP ECC 5.0.
- BI 7.0 (based on NW 7.0 or 7.01) from source releases BW 3.x
- BW 7.30 from source releases BI 6.40, BI 7.0
- SCM 7.0 from source release SCM 4.1
All other SAP products based on the following source releases are supported and available for PILOT CUSTOMERS:
SAP_BASIS 4.6C, SAP_BASIS 4.6D,
SAP_BASIS 6.20, and
SAP_BASIS 6.40.
If you want to become a pilot customer, please contact globalization@sap.com.
Note: For MDMP systems on source release Web AS 6.10 and on source releases lower than R/3 4.6C a different procedure called "Twin Upgrade & Unicode Conversion" ("TU&UC") is available on pilot project basis. Please read SAP note 959698 for details.
The TU& UC procedure is only available for MDMP and Ambiguous Blended Code Page systems.
- 2. Is the CU&UC supported for all code page configuration types?
The CU&UC is supported for:
- Single Code Page configurations
- MDMP configurations
- Unambiguous Blended Code Page configurations
- Ambiguous Blended Code Page configurations which meet the requirements listed in SAP Note 818374 (minimum Support Package and Kernel patch levels, special parameter settings, etc.).
Note: We strongly recommend that this upgrade is done by a certified SAP Technical Consultant with experience in converting systems to Unicode. Please contact globalization@sap.com for more information.
- 3. Are there any hardware regulations for CU&UC?
In some cases there might be additional hardware required for a Unicode system (compared to non-Unicode). The size depends on several factors, for example the database encoding format (UTF-8 vs. UTF-16), the code page and language settings (MDMP vs. Single Code Page) before the CU&UC, use of double byte languages like Japanese, and more. SAP Note 73606 provides detailed information; please refer to the documents attached to 73606.
- 4. What support packages, patches and corrections do I need?
The required minimum support package levels for the source and target releases are listed in the matrix below. Note that they are also required for the supported CU&UC procedure of non-R/3 products as they are based on Basis releases (see section 1.).
In addition, check SAP Note 867193 for up-to-date information about support packages, patches and corrections.
- 5. What documentation do I need and where can I find it?
You need the "Combined Upgrade & Unicode Conversion Guide" which is available for download from the Note attachments. Please check the following matrix to find out which CU&UC Guide is required for your source/target release combination.
